Emily Geyer

Emily Geyer is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC# 0701013671) who utilizes a person-centered approach to work with children, adults, couples, and families. With specialized training in evidence-based practices including Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emily’s gentle, supportive nature empowers her clients to use their inherent strengths as well as explore new coping strategies to overcome various challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief, relationship conflict, addiction, trauma, and eating disorders.
Emily completed her Bachelor’s degree in psychology and cognitive science at the University of Virginia in 2017. Emily then worked for three years as an eating disorder recovery coach with adolescents in residential treatment. She also volunteered for several years at a therapeutic horseback riding program. Emily graduated with her Master’s of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The College of William and Mary in 2022. During her internship, she counseled adults at a community-based psychosocial rehabilitation day program for the Middle Peninsula Northern Neck Community Services Board. Emily then interned with Chesapeake Counseling Associates (CCA) and has since remained with CCA, where she has provided a wide variety of services, including: substance abuse counseling, domestic violence and anger management counseling, parenting, co-parenting, mental health evaluations, parenting capacity evaluations, couples, and family counseling, and mental health counseling for adults and children.
Emily’s wide range of experiences in the mental health field has allowed her to work with a diverse group of clientele. She utilizes her multifaceted skill set to walk alongside her clients in co-constructing treatment goals that will best serve their individualized needs. Through authenticity, empathy, and encouragement, Emily helps clients build the skills and confidence to make lasting, positive changes in their lives.
