Linda Hodges
MSW, LCSW
Linda Hodges is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW# 0904001966). She has never taken for granted how difficult it can be for someone to call requesting an appointment for counseling. People generally request counseling for a problem they have not been able to resolve, and counseling can be a last resort. It takes a lot of trust to call, make an appointment, and keep the appointment. She does not take this process for granted.
Linda earned her bachelor’s degree from Lynchburg College (now University of Lynchburg) and has had the privilege of working her entire career in the community in which she lives; that being the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck of Virginia. She first became interested in clinical counseling when employed by the Community Services Board. She had a supervisor who became a mentor; he was committed to working with families. His passion for and commitment to this work was contagious and led her to return to school to earn a Master of Social Work (MSW) Degree at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). During graduate school, she continued to work at the Community Services Board and was fortunate to receive training from pioneers in the field such as Jay Haley and Chloe Madanes.
After graduate school, she earned her LCSW and continued to work with individuals and families through the Community Services Board focusing primarily on crisis work. Family considerations led her to move to a position as a High School Counselor. It is in this position she learned how trauma can impact learning. When she left this position and returned to work in both the private and public behavioral health sectors, she learned how the consequence of trauma can impact children’s ability to learn. This led her to focus on helping people resolve their trauma. She also became interested in working with children and adults diagnosed with ADHD, and anxiety and with couples struggling with their relationships.
She is always eager to improve her clinical skills and take continuing education courses so she can be more effective in assisting people to resolve behavioral health challenges. Linda is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and Motivational Interviewing amongst other evidence-based modalities.
