Philippa Chin

PhD, LPC, LMFT, NCC

Philippa Chin is a licensed professional counselor (LPC# 0701011240), a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT# 0717001866 ), a nationally certified counselor (NCC), and a Counselor Educator. She received a Master’s degree in Couples, Marriage and Family Counseling, and a Doctorate in Counselor Education from The College of William and Mary.

Dr. Chin specializes in frameworks and interventions that aim at relationship enhancement, stress reduction, conflict resolution, and enhanced communication. She approaches therapy from a systems perspective. She explores how our partners, family system, work system, community system, and societal systems affect one’s mental health outcomes. She facilitates critical and culturally relevant discussions, leaving space for reflection and a collaborative approach to reach the client’s mental health goals. Her approach is nonjudgmental, with a focus on enhancing one’s understanding of problems and the development of solutions.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Chin is an assistant professor for a graduate counseling program, teaching master’s students the skills necessary to become licensed counselors. She conducts research that is published in peer-reviewed counseling journals and presents at international and national conferences on social justice, international counseling, and counselor education issues.
