Play Therapy
For children aged three to twelve, play often provides a more effective way to express themselves than words. This is why play therapy is recognized as one of the most effective methods for helping children process their repressed thoughts and emotions, promoting healing and personal growth.
Therapeutic play is beneficial for all children. It aids those with social and emotional difficulties in developing better communication skills and behaviors, fostering more positive interactions with others. Play therapy is also effective for children with learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, anxiety, depression, attention deficit issues, and autism spectrum disorders. Furthermore, it can support children experiencing stress from life events such as divorce, trauma, family crises, illness, or changes in their environment.
Sessions occur in a safe and comfortable space, sometimes including the parent or caregiver. Following an initial intake interview, your therapist will choose from various treatment strategies to find the best fit for the child. Approaches may include storytelling, role-playing, dolls, dancing, and music. Through these creative activities, the therapist can engage with your child on a deeper level, helping to reveal thoughts and feelings that might be hard for the child to articulate otherwise.
This cathartic and healing approach isn’t just for children; adults can also benefit from play therapy, either on their own or with the assistance of one of our experienced therapists.
