Solution-Focused Therapy

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is perfect for clients who are goal-oriented. Rather than focusing on past issues and traumas, SFBT encourages clients to share their questions or challenges and work collaboratively with the therapist to find solutions. This approach is rooted in the belief that clients already possess the insights needed to address their concerns, with the therapist acting as a facilitator rather than a traditional problem-solver.

Central to SFBT is the process of goal setting. Once the client articulates their desires, the therapist helps them envision the changes they hope to achieve through therapy and how their lives could improve if their issues were resolved. This use of Socratic questioning empowers clients to develop actionable plans. A pivotal element of SFBT is the "miracle question": “If a miracle happened while you slept, what would be different in your life tomorrow?” This encourages clients to think creatively about their aspirations and the changes they wish to pursue.

By utilizing a combination of questions, rating scales, and positive reinforcement, the therapist assists clients in recognizing their strengths and building resilience for future challenges. This emphasis on positivity encourages clients to focus on what they can achieve rather than what they can't, facilitating meaningful progress in all areas of their lives—well beyond their initial concerns.
